smartsystem Update v30
New Exposure Scenarios for Depression and OCD
Version 30 expands two clinically demanding modules: the Depression Module and the OCD Module each receive a new scenario, making previously difficult-to-access therapeutic situations available in VR.

Dolphin Interaction in the Depression Module:
VR as a Space for Resource Work
Patients find themselves in the water as a dolphin swims toward them. They can touch it, actively call it closer, hold its dorsal fin and swim alongside it — or take both fins in their hands and let themselves be pulled backwards through the water. Swimming speed is adjustable via a slider.
Resource activation in depression treatment requires experiential situations, not just verbal anchors. This scenario creates a framework for positive embodiment and a sense of agency — controlled, and independent of real animals or outdoor settings.
Knife Compulsion Scenario in the OCD Module:
Exposure, Restructuring and Alternatives in One Setting
Patients choose between a room and a bathroom. All objects on the tables — including several knives — can be picked up. Cutting actions on the forearm are depicted with visible wounds and blood drops; in the bathroom, the knife can be cleaned under the tap. Knives and wounds can be toggled on or off and reset at any time.
The scenario covers three therapeutic approaches: cognitively challenging obsessive thoughts, carrying out cutting impulses in a controlled VR environment, or practising alternative responses. Which approach is appropriate and when remains a clinical decision — the setting makes all three possible without the intensity becoming unmanageable.

The dolphin scenario and the knife compulsion scenario are best evaluated in practice. See the new features in a personal demo.
